Studija’s educational program is built on the idea that contemporary art is not only something to look at, but something to experience, question, and shape. We see learning as a process that begins with curiosity and develops through making, experimenting, discussing, and reflecting. Rather than focusing on specific outcomes, our educational program encourages participants to engage with the process – to test, observe, rethink, and discover new ways of relating to art, regardless of previous experience.

Each edition is developed and led by a professional artist whose own practice forms the foundation of the learning experience. Artists share their methods, references, and ongoing thematic questions, inviting participants into their way of thinking and working. Learning develops through experimentation, discussion, and making, with participants encouraged to contribute their own ideas as the process unfolds. Our educational activities welcome everyone – from those encountering contemporary art for the first time to artists looking to expand their artistic language – bringing together people with different backgrounds, levels of experience, and approaches to art.

The first edition of the program, Material Associations, was led by Canadian-Latvian artist Kristine Mifsud. The workshops explored how material processes can deepen our relationship to place, inviting participants to work with locally found, processed, and self-made materials to develop new perspectives on their surroundings.

Studija’s educational program continues to evolve alongside our residency and public program, with the next edition to be announced in fall 2026.
